AFL Blind

AFL Blind is an adapted version of Australian Rules Football created to provide people who are blind or vision impaired with the opportunity to experience the excitement, teamwork and competition of Australia's most popular sport. Combining familiar football skills with specialised equipment and modified rules, AFL Blind creates an inclusive environment where players can develop confidence, fitness and friendships through sport.

The sport has grown rapidly across Australia in recent years, with participation opportunities available in several states and territories. AFL Blind is governed nationally by Blind Sports Australia in partnership with the AFL, with local programs and competitions delivered by organisations such as Blind Sports SA. Whether you're looking to try football for the first time or reconnect with a sport you've always loved, AFL Blind offers a welcoming pathway into the game.

AFL Blind brings the excitement, teamwork, and fast paced action of traditional Australian Rules Football to people who are blind or have vision impairment. The game is adapted to ensure everyone can participate.

Matches take place indoors, creating a setting where players can depend on their hearing to follow the game. The football has a modified design that includes an electronic sound device, helping players find the ball as it moves.

Each player must wear a coloured wristband on each wrist to identify their Player classification: White for B1, Red for B2, and Blue for B3.

Additional features assist players in orienting themselves and spotting scoring chances. These include high contrast goal backdrops, flashing lights behind the goals, and audible signals from goal umpires when the ball goes into the scoring area.
